It is our flagship family-friendly event with lower ticket prices. More than 80 students attended the workshop, including prospective students who are curious to learn about Chinese culture. On Monday September 12 Brown University celebrated the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival on the Main Green with traditional moon cakes,calligraphy, and skits. This event is held in September of every year in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival. As a way to experience this tradition, students collaborated in groups to make their own lanterns and all did an amazing job! Students brought lanterns home as a souvenir from the Mid-Autumn Festival Culture Workshop. One of the notable traditions is to carry brightly-lit lanterns. Zhngqi Ji (), is the official name in Mandarin. Students also appreciated the diverse traditions of the festival across many Chinese speaking communities. The Mid-Autumn Festival is also known by other names, such as: Moon Festival or Harvest Moon Festival, because of the celebration's association with the full moon on this night, as well as the traditions of moon worship and moon viewing. ![]() After getting familiar with the story and the origin of the festival, students gathered in small groups to talk about the story in Chinese and everyone did a great job!
